Hacienda Yaxcopoil

We start the tour when our guide arrives for you in the lobby of your hotel, we will go to know the history of the haciendas in Yucatan.

We will move to the beautiful henequen hacienda of Yaxcopoil, founded in the 17th century, was once considered one of the most important rural estates in the Yucatan. The name “Yaxcopoil” comes from Mayan which means “the place of the green Alamo trees“. Today the hacienda is turned into a parador and museum, which tries to show the spaces and furniture that used to be used in times of splendor. The main house, consist of four main rooms that have been kept in their original state. The décor reflects the time period of the glory in the late 1800’s.

In the henequen shredding plant, it shows vestiges of the first motors and machines of the 19th century for the agricultural and industrial process. In the machine room, a German diesel engine with 100 HP of Körting (Hannover) brand from 1913 is kept in good condition, which was used until 1984 when the production of henequen fiber at the farm concluded, after more than a century.

Then we will visit the cenotes of San Antonio Mulix where you will enjoy an open cenote and the second type of cave. The attractiveness of these cenotes is accompanied by cycling activities of approximately 6 km (optional).

Finally, we will go to eat Yucatecan food at the Ochil hacienda and you will be able to enjoy this place that has several double Moorish arches, later we return to Mérida.

One day tour Diving in Cenotes

Of the latter, it should be mentioned that Río Lagartos has one of the most important and extensive mangrove areas in all of Yucatan, its waters are home to a wide variety of mollusks, crustaceans and fish. It is also considered one of the main wetlands as it represents, among other things, the first available habitat for migratory birds from the United States and Canada.
