The Millenary Tarahumaras

This tour offers you a unique experience filled with landscapes, magic and color. The route extends throughout the majestic Copper Canyon, beginning at the port of Mazatlan in the state of Sinaloa, making its way to Los Mochis to tour the mountains of the extensive Sierra Tarahumara. The best means of transportation for traveling this route is the Chepe, a Mexican train offering maximum comfort, whose railroad cars wind through the narrow mountain passes. Some parts of the route can also be done in all-terrain vehicles, allowing you to be in contact with the region's beautiful natural surroundings.

The main part of the route is in Copper Canyon, an extensive natural park that's 370 miles long and holds diverse and beautiful wildlife. Its gigantic red rocks contain semitropical forests and impressive waterfalls, including the Cusarare Waterfall and the Piedra Volada Waterfall, whose height of 1,486 feet makes it the tallest in Mexico.

During your stay in Copper Canyon, you can explore the world of one of Mexico's most important ethnic groups, the "Raramuri", or Tarahumaras, known as "the flying feet". This population is filled with legends, unique traditions and a mystical communion with the world that surrounds it. In the region's villages, you'll find everything from traditional clay artisan to beautiful drums used to "awaken the wind", along with handicrafts made of wood, palm trees, wool, leather and animal hooves.

On the outskirts of Urique Canyon, the deepest in the Mexican republic, you'll come across the town of the same name. The town of Urique is worth a visit thanks to the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains provided by the area known as El Divisadero ("The Divider"). Nearby, you can visit the city of Creel, which offers a wide range of convenient services for tourists.

For the highlight of this route, make your way to the city of Chihuahua, where you'll find colonial buildings and important historic sites, like Hidalgo's Dungeon and the San Antonio Chapel, or museums like Casa Juarez and the Museum of the Revolution, which was once the residence of Pancho Villa. In contrast to the historical surroundings, you can also enjoy modern accommodations and large shopping centers.

Along this tour, you can experience a variety of exciting activities, such as rock climbing, mountain biking, rappelling, rafting, hiking, horseback riding and animal watching.

Enjoy the amazing geological structures and the cultural legacy in this millennial region.
